Mario & Luigi

Bio:

The Bunny Sisters, nicknamed Mario and Luigi, are fluffy little rascals holding a rather dark secret. Despite their adorable, heart-studded appearances, they're actually two halves of a fallen angel! ...Or demon? They can't get their story straight, and it comes across in their appearances and mannerisms.

Once part of a great rabbit-fiend whom was split apart for unknown reasons, Mario and Luigi are the tiny squabbling halves of that once great whole. While Mario, being the weakened of the two is incredibly dead-set on finding a way to re-achieve their lost divinity, Luigi is in no rush to return to a boring existence of isolating power. Especially when she can be wasting her powers on hanging out with mortals.

Luigi's predominant ability is that of shape-shifting, and she uses it to try - and often fail - to worm her way into the hearts of mortals whom have already wormed their way into hers. She's easily smitten but just as easily intimidated, even by her weaker half who only views the mortals she's dragged into interacting with as mere pests. Though, that doesn't stop her from getting rather attached to one every now and then.

Their quest to recombine isn't getting all that far to say the least.

Origins & Inspirations

The prototypes of these character's stretch all the way back to early 2021, when I was musing about the idea of creating a new rabbit sona. The second I made the goth little thing, I realized she needed a counterpart, and though I never fleshed out the other's design as clearly, I knew they made quite a fun pair. Things only pick back up with them however, in 2023 when I combined them with two other sona-OC's, Mario and Luigi.

Those two also began as a sona who grew a counterpart, but technically Luigi goes back to 2020, as she's been my Animal Crossing Sona since I picked up the game during the Pandemic. I played it 90% as a dress-up game, and fell in love with Cookie despite all my macabre sensibilities, so from that I had a little semi-sona, who was a shapeshifting fiend smitten by the local sweatheart. (This Luigi was also the birth of my videogame pseudonym).

Mario came later in 2023 as well, as I was just purely thinking about how much the duo needed to be completed once again. But as I built their dynamic of a domineering angel and pitiful demon, I decided I really wanted them to be more than just sonas, and so I combined their likenesses with those old bunnies and got their current iterations.

Both of them have a lot of history with me for as little as they've been developed as OCs, but I think they clearest external inspirations for them are the duos of Elfilin and Forgo from Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and the titular Panty and Stocking of anime fame. Despite the surface level ridiculousness of that, from them you get one half that's more outgoing, gregarious, and carefree, and another half that's more reclusive, scheming, and duplicitous. Then add in the marriage of cute little animals with angel/demon motifs, and you basically got those scamps. Very little of their namesakes is incorporated into their designs besides the colors, but if you squint you can almost make out the vestiges of some College Humor type riff on the famous siblings.
