Sona Onion

Bio:

Onion II or simply Sona Onion is my primary sona and mascot, who developed out of OC Onion starting in late 2018.

Origins & Inspirations

Onion II's story begins where Onion I's tenure as my sona ends: When I got my dreadlocks in 2018 and decided to finally move on from the era of my life which inspired Neonverse. Throughout 2018 and 2019 she didn't evolve all that much, but a lot of love was poured into her through a very active time of original profile pictures production. But that consistency was important, as she was incredibly helpful in helping fall in love with my locs, which did NOT look pretty when I first got them. It was a rocky physical transition, but stylizing those pathetic things and slapping them on my cool hyena went a long way.

She would also prove a very vital anchor throughout 2020 as the pandemic chaos had me questioning a lot of things about my identity and mental health. For the second time, an Onion saw herself being split into 3 Onionettes in the Medallic Onions - each representing a sort of state of restlessness I cycled through across the year. The edgy shadowed face shared by all three of them symbolized the lack of self I felt so isolated from my usual life, with those prospects represented by the dainty rose Onion held in some of those early sketches. Out of that year came a very new identity for myself and for my sona who gained a lot of her current visage from those 3.

In 2022 her design started to truly resolidify intime for my little graduation artwork. It was technically a commission for my dad, who wanted me to draw myself, so I got to explain my fursona to him afterwards. But it was in 2023 while musing about making a little update video for my channel that I really dug in and redesigned Onion to represent what she and I had grown into. It's a bunch of tiny refinements that make me really love the new design - the pattern and color of the hair, the little fades on her markings, adding my little beauty mark :3c - she's a real beaut.

When it comes to inspirations, there's little to say besides myself and some aesthetics I really identify with. During 2021 I got really into Final Fantasy and its divinity motifs, causing me to really fall in love with the line between demons and angels, inspiring Onion to officially take on a demonic origin. My human sona Luigi whose design now makes up the half of a different OC duo also played a lot into how I approached Onion's hair. And speaking of hair, yes in the graduation portrait that was based on my IRL hairstyle for the event! It was very uncomfortable to sleep on.
