Moxietale
Rainbow the Cat
Bio:
Rainbow is young cat of mysterious origins, who's been living with Sun and Moon for as long as he can remember, and soon becomes an older brother figure to Moxie.
After being formally apprenticed by Sun and Moon, Moxie comes to live in their temple, where she soon finds Rainbow. The tom appears very aloof, but the cause of his attitude are memory issues that lead him to not caring about new faces, as he'll simple forget them eventually. But after weeks of Moxie being a constant in the temple, he does begin to remember her consistently, which makes the both of them feel more like family.
Rainbow was tasked with guarding the temple while Sun and Moon went on missions, but every now and then he joins them. He and Moxie become a dynamic duo, with Rainbow trusting her to keep him up to date with gaps his memory might have caused, and Rainbow being muscle where Moxie's cleverness fails her.
But Rainbow and Moxie have more reasons to consider each other family than they'd originally thought, being that they're both demigods. Like Moxie, Rainbow was taken in by Sun and Moon in order to keep eyes on the children of their fellow gods. While Moxie is related to Shinigami, Rainbow was the child of Water and a mortal from a kingdom of cats named Sunlight. The reason he doesn't remember this nor many things is because an amnesia spell was placed on him by Moon herself to cover it up.
Rainbow comes off as the strong but silent type, and was always meant to be kind of angsty. But he is Moxie's closest friend, especially as the truths of their origins and Sun and Moon's schemes tear down their world.
Origins & Inspirations
Back when I first designed Rainbow, he represented one of my favorite color schemes, which was white and black with splashes of brightness. He was actually planned to be part of an entire family of characters, all white animals with black highlights and a trail of rainbow somewhere on their bodies, but soon he became his own stand-out character.
He was also created around the time I was experiencing my first teenage angsts, which led to his characterization. While Moxie was a muse of lost youth, he was one of silent anger, which is why those two are so dear to me. In the later years of my development of this story, as I gained a better grasp on character writing, I gave him more sympathetic angles like his aloofness being related to memory issues. And I even planned a confrontation with him where he seemed to abandon Moxie when the truth of their guardians was revealed, but really the news just hit him even harder than Moxie.
